POLYHEDRA, 2025
by Elena Juárez

About the project

POLYHEDRA: A Polygonal Exploration, by Elena Juárez, is a visual meditation on the five Platonic solids and their enduring presence in geometry, cosmology, and metaphysical thought. The series blends ancient ideal forms and contemporary digital aesthetics, unfolding across five video works that interpret the solids not as mathematical truths, but as mutable, floating entities.

Each of the five pieces – Elemental Tetrahedra (FIRE), Cubic Harmonies (EARTH), Octahedral Dreamscapes (AIR), Dodecahedral Universes (ETHER), and Icosahedral Fluidity (WATER) – is anchored in a corresponding classical element, reflecting the philosophical associations ascribed to these forms by Plato and his predecessors. As foundational components of both natural philosophy and sacred geometry, the Platonic solids are here reactivated as symbolic environments shaped by rhythm and colours.

While the Platonic solids are defined by their strict formal properties – regular, convex, equilateral – this project seeks to dissolve those boundaries and explore their expressive potential. Using a high-resolution digital format (3840x2160px at 60fps), Elena makes each loop a space of continuous transformation.

Artistic Research and Digital Alchemy

POLYHEDRA emerges from an artistic research process where visual code, ancient mathematics, and symbolic meaning are interwoven. The use of TouchDesigner allows for an exploration of complexity through simplicity, where the purity of each Platonic form becomes a point of departure rather than a limit. Elena examines how digital matter can echo the metaphysical: a kind of alchemy where code becomes the medium through which ancient wisdom is reshaped for contemporary perception.

By grounding each work in the symbolic elements of fire, earth, air, ether, and water, POLYHEDRA does not just play with the Platonic solids, but shows them as living stimulants of thought and perception. It proposes that even in the digital age, geometry is still a space for mystery and elemental wonder.

About the artist

Elena Juárez is a visual and new media artist based in Madrid, working at the intersection of technology, interactivity, and live audiovisual creation. Her practice spans generative graphics, interactive installations, and visual compositions for musicians, dance and theater companies, designers, and arts institutions.

Juárez’s work is driven by a fascination with transforming space - both physical and conceptual through geometric compositions and abstract narratives.

Sound plays a central role in her process, intricately linked to programmed parameters that allow for real-time audiovisual creation. Her approach explores ways in which sound can be seen and image can be heard, bridging coding with sensory experience. With a background in Fine Arts specializing in visual media, Juárez is deeply engaged with experimental and digital technologies in performance and installation.

Beyond her artistic practice, Juárez is dedicated to education and knowledge-sharing. She teaches technology and interactivity at IED Madrid and has led talks, courses, and workshops in institutions such as Réplika Teatro and UPM. She is also curating new media cycles at La Casa Encendida, fostering dialogue around contemporary digital practices.
